NAPLES — A Fort Myers man accused of DUI manslaughter and five other felony counts in connection with a 2010 crash in eastern Collier County that killed a woman, turned himself in early Wednesday, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Early Wednesday, Todd Thomas Collins, 41, of Fort Myers, turned himself in at the Sheriff's Office, which had a warrant out for his arrest on six felony counts: one for DUI manslaughter, one for vehicular manslaughter, and two each for DUI with serious bodily injury and reckless driving causing serious bodily injury.
Phyllis France, 61, of Fort Myers, died at the scene from injuries she received in the head-on collision April 5, 2010, on U.S. 41 East in eastern Collier. France's 2009 Dodge minivan, eastbound on the rural, two-lane highway, was struck by a 2006 Toyota pickup driven by Collins, who drove left of center on the highway, according to Florida Highway Patrol reports.
France's minivan overturned, killing her and injuring four passengers, all from Illinois. Collins also was injured in the crash.
