Case Ruled Homicide For Pikesville Woman Who Died After Head Trauma

PIKESVILLE, Md. (WJZ) — A fatal domestic assault case has been ruled a homicide.

Gwendolyn Jackson, 44, of the 5200-block of St. Charles Avenue, died last month after  suffering from a head injury.

On Nov. 21 at 9:40 p.m., officers responded to the 4600-block of Chickory Hill Lane in Pikesville for a domestic call.  The victim called 911 to report that she and her boyfriend, Herbert Westley Johnson, 52, had gotten into a verbal argument.  Both parties told officers that no physical contact had occurred at that time.

On Nov. 22 at 8:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to Northwest Hospital for an assault call.  Jackson had been admitted for a head injury, and told medical personnel that her boyfriend had assaulted her. The victim's condition deteriorated and she was transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital due to her condition.

Jackson died on Nov. 23 at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Her body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.  Last Thursday, the Baltimore County Police received notification of the homicide ruling.

Johnson, the victim's boyfriend, was arrested at Northwest Hospital on Nov. 22, and was charged with first- and second- degree assault.  He is currently being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the case. Additional charges are pending.
