Manslaughter case now set for March

The manslaughter trial of a Chippewa Falls man is now set for March 5 in Jefferson County, Texas.

Lance Mueller, 48, of 4885 Golfview Drive, is accused of the shooting death of Gregory J. Fleniken, 55, on Sept. 16, 2010, at the MCM Elegante Hotel and Conference Center in Beaumont, Texas.

Mueller's trial had been scheduled for October, but was pushed off until March. The case will be heard by Judge John Stevens, Jr.

According to a police complaint:

Mueller and Timothy R. Steinmetz, both electricians from Wisconsin, were in the same motel room on Sept. 16, 2010 as others, including Trent Pasano.

Mueller and Steinmetz both worked for Aaron Bourque, an electrical crew foreman.

Bourque said Mueller appeared to be stressed out, telling Bourque that Mueller and others were drinking together in a hotel room. Mueller said he had a pistol and it fired. The bullet went into the wall that separated the motel rooms.

Mueller said the morning after the gun discharged police took a dead body from the adjacent room, according to Bourque.

Steinmetz told police that Mueller had been drinking a lot that night.

Pasano told police that Mueller had pointed a loaded pistol at Steinmetz, who ducked and told Mueller to stop.

According to Pasano, Mueller then pointed the gun in the direction of Pasano, pulled the trigger and fired.

The bullet missed Pasano and hit the wall separating rooms 348 and 349 of the motel.
