Slain woman is Camden’s 67th murder victim this year

Camden's murder total for 2012 reached a record 67 late Sunday, when a 25-year-old woman was gunned down outside her home.

Rasheeda Pegues was found slain on the 2000 block of Ferry Avenue shortly after 11 p.m., the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said. She had died from multiple gunshot wounds.

No arrests have been made in the killing.

The murder is Camden's 67th this year, far surpassing the city's previous record of 58, set in 1995.

Pegues' death was the second killing in Camden over the weekend. On Saturday night, 36-year-old Rahkeem Byrd was shot inside a house on the 1100 block of Thurman Street and died at a hospital.
