Cops: Man charged with involuntary homicide didn't know gun was loaded

A Woodstock man was charged with involuntary homicide in what appears to have been an accidental shooting Wednesday evening, McHenry County sheriff's police said.

Maxwell Cannon, 21, of the 1200 block of Club Road, also was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.

Cannon had taken the magazine out of his gun, not realizing there was still a bullet in the chamber when he pointed the weapon at an acquaintance and fired, said Undersheriff Andrew Zinke.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly before 8:40 p.m. at a residence in the 1900 block of Woodlawn Park Avenue in unincorporated McHenry County.

The victim was identified by the coroner's office as Anthony Kloeckner, 19, of McHenry, who was pronounced dead at Centegra McHenry Hospital at 9:25 p.m.

Other people were present at the time, police said.
