Homicide victims' families pray for peace
A Kansas City church is working to build awareness about the crime problem in the city.
Members of the Wornall Road Baptist Church on 63rd Street have put up more than 100 white crosses - one for each of the men and women murdered in Kansas City this year.
The church hosted a special service Tuesday night for all the victims' families, as they make their way through the first holiday season without their loved ones.
The pastor says he wants the victims' families to know they are not forgotten.
But the church also wants the city to know how big the violence problem is.
"They are also a symbol to the city at this busy intersection of the tremendous problem the city faces. We can't ignore it. We can't see it on the news and then forget about it," said pastor John Mark Clifton with the Wornall Road Baptist Church. "We have come to realize these murders are our problem. This is our city."
