Murder inquiry after man stabbed

A murder hunt has been launched after a man was stabbed in a village in North Lanarkshire.

Christopher Bergin, 42, was found seriously injured in the close of flats at Millhall Court in Plains in the early hours of Friday morning.

He was taken to Monklands Hospital where he died on Friday night.

A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal. It is understood police are following a positive line of inquiry.

Det Ch Insp Pat Campbell, from Strathclyde Police, said: "Extensive inquiries are ongoing into this incident and officers are continuing to interview witnesses and carry out door-to-door inquiries in an effort to glean further information on this murder.

"I would ask anyone who was in the area of Millhall Court in Plains around the time of the attack on Friday morning to come forward to police, as they may have unwittingly witnessed something vital to this investigation."
