Homicide charges filed in Nashville child's fire death
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities have charged a Nashville man with criminal homicide in the death of a 6-year-old boy who was left alone and died in a fire.
Cortaviz Green was taken to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital after he was pulled from a burning housing Wednesday morning. He died a short time later from smoke inhalation.
Nashville youth services detectives on Thursday charged 29-year-old Travis Wright with criminal homicide for leaving the boy unattended to go to work. Police said it appears the boy was alone for at least 30 minutes.
The boy's mother told police she left her son with Wright so she could go to a store that provides free toys to low-income families.
Investigators believe the fire started in a wall heater next to a sofa.
