Homicide victim's girlfriend says suspects equally responsible

INDIANAPOLIS -

They had their entire lives in front of them. Jeremy Crane and Angel Dick were a couple, and when they were not together, they were text-messaging each other.

"He was texting me right before I thought he fell asleep," Angel told Eyewitness News Wednesday. "But when he didn't show to pick me up for school, I knew something was wrong. I didn't know what, but something."

Her gut feeling was right, and painfully so. Jeremy Crane, according to a probable cause affidavit, was shot twice in the face. His niece, 7-year-old Kyleigh Crane, was shot once in the back of the head.

Michael Bell and Jeremy Priel have both been charged with murder. Bell told police he took Priel to the house. Their plan, according to police, was for Bell to go inside. And once inside, Priel would come in and rob everyone.

"But if you were there and you didn't stop it, you are just as guilty," said Angel. "I mean, a seven-year-old who I'm sure had to be crying…"

Bell and Priel took an Xbox 360 and a Playstation which, according to police documents, were sold for $ 40 cash and an ounce of marijuana.

"It is sickening to know that I cared about him and I embraced him as a brother, just as much as Jeremy had," said Angel.

In addition to the game systems, police say the suspects also took Crane's cell phone. Tracking the phone helped police piece together Bell and Priel's movement in the hours after the crime.

Documents say Bell, on his own accord, turned himself into police early Sunday morning, telling a number of versions of what happened inside the Crane house.

Prosecutors filed murder and robbery charges against Priel and Bell Wednesday.
