Suspect in vicar murder arrested

The suspect in the murder of a Gloucestershire vicar has been arrested in Kent after a tip-off from a member of the public.

Stephen Farrow, 47, was arrested in the early hours of Sunday in Folkestone, Kent police said in a statement, following a manhunt sparked by the fatal stabbing of the Reverend John Suddards in his home in Thornbury.

"(Farrow) was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into police custody. No-one was injured," the police statement added.

Suddards, 59, was found stabbed to death on Tuesday in his vicarage after the alarm was raised by workmen, leaving the local community and clergy in shock. A former barrister, the victim had taken up the Thornbury post in July last year after moving from Witham in Essex.

Police arrested and bailed another man aged 43 over the death.

They then said they were searching for Farrow and warned the public not to approach him.

"It was as a direct result of assistance from a member of the public that we were able to locate this man and we would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude," said Detective Chief Inspector Simon Crisp, of Avon and Somerset Police.

Police have also seized a white Citroen van in which a man in his 40s was said to have been sleeping.
