Police video outlines 'crucial' evidence in homicide
Edmonton police want the public's help in tracking down the killers in the "senseless murder of a good man" last April.
Police produced a video revealing evidence collected in the homicide of a 29-year-old John Stanley Kwiatkowski.
Kwiatkowski was found dead in his home at 34th Street and 103rd Avenue by his wife at about 6:15 a.m. on April 14, 2011.
Kwiatkowski's wife was returning from his work after working a night shift, said Det. Colin Derksen, who narrates the four-minute video.
She expected to find Kwiatkowski awake and preparing to leave for work, but instead found the home dark and quiet, he said.
She soon discovered the body of her husband who had been "brutally attacked and murdered," said Derksen.
She also found the couple's two-year-old daughter who, "it was evident," had been present at the time her father was killed, he said.
"We believe more than one person entered John Kwiatkowski's house that night and took part in the killing," said Derksen.
One of the intruders left behind a Canada Dry Ginger Ale pop can, said Derksen.
Police said several items were taken from the house, some of which are still missing, he said.
Some time later police discovered an abandonned Jeep Cherokee, which had been stolen several days before the murder, containing some of the stolen items including a video camera and a pair of high-top runners stained with Kwiatkowski's blood.
