Coral Spring police search for homicide suspect

A suspect in a homicide investigation in Port St. Lucie fled his Coral Springs home on Sunday evening, prompting a police search for him via helicopter.

Police put a perimeter around the 8600 block of Forrest Hill Boulevard around 7:15 p.m., said Coral Springs police Lt. Joe McHugh.

They were still our searching just after midnight.

The man is suspected in the slaying of a man found shot to death on the kitchen floor of his home in Port St. Lucie.

Aleksandr Gorbach, 43, was found Saturday evening in a home on Portage Avenue, according to Port St. Lucie police spokesman Tom Nichols. Gorbach, described as a local businessman, had a gunshot wound to his upper torso, police said.

Coral Springs and Port St. Lucie police were working together to find the suspect since Saturday.

Residents in some areas got automated calls from the police department warning them to lock their doors and stay inside.

No other details were available Sunday evening, McHugh said.
