Murder charges filed in good Samaritan’s slaying in Sun Valley
A man was charged Tuesday in the January slaying of a 24-year-old man who tried to help his grandfather during a Sun Valley robbery.
Edwin Alexander Bonilla, 27, was charged with one count of special circumstances homicide, attempted homicide, assault with a firearm and second-degree robbery in the killing of Danilo Estuardo Morales.
Morales was shot in the head after coming to the aid of his 68-year-old grandfather, who had just been mugged by three men outside a home in the 8100 block of Coldwater Canyon Boulevard, authorities said.
The grandfather had just arrived at the home when he encountered the three men, who took his wallet and jewelry, police said. He was not injured.
Morales, who was inside the house, ran out after hearing his grandfather's cries for help and was shot.
Two other men have been charged with one count each of special circumstances homicide, attempted homicide, assault with a firearm and second-degree robbery in connection with the Jan. 9 slaying.
