Homicide suspect arrested in Clark County after chase
Marathon/Clark Counties (WQOW) - A homicide suspect is arrested in Clark County after a chase.
20-year-old Lee Xiong was shot and killed around 8:00 Saturday night in the Village of Weston. That's in Marathon County. Police say the suspect, a 21-year-old man from Minnesota, fled the scene in a black truck. It took several law enforcement agencies hours to locate the suspect. He was eventually spotted in neighboring Clark County.
Police were called to the Aspen Pines Apartments in Weston around eight o-clock. When first responders arrived on scene they found the body of 20-year-old Lee Xiong. Police say it appeared she had been shot. Authorities say the suspect had left the scene in a stolen black ford truck. The truck was spotted several hours later in western Marathon County.
"Officers from, I believe, Abbottsford ran the plate, saw the suspect vehicle, a chase did ensue," says Everest Metro Police Chief Wally Sparks.
Police say that chase ended in Clark County.
The vehicle was ditched in a wooded area, and the suspect fled on foot.
Marathon and Clark County sheriff's deputies used K-9's to locate the suspect.
"They had set up a perimeter in the area where the suspect was located and it's my understanding that they took him into custody without incident," says Chief Sparks.
Police haven't yet released his name, but say the suspect is a 21-year-old Asian male from the St. Paul area in Minnesota. He is currently being held in the Marathon County jail.
"In our belief, he has already committed a violent act resulting in a homicide," Chief Sparks says.
Authorities say they plan to recommend charges of first degree intentional homicide.
Authorities plan to release the man's name at a press conference tomorrow morning.
