Whitehall police have identified the victim of a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning.

Michael Payne, 38, of Whitehall, was found near a curb in a residential area in Whitehall at about 4 a.m. Saturday.

An autopsy conducted by Franklin County Coroner Dr. Jan Gorniak on Sunday indicated that Payne died from strangulation.

Detectives said the death is being considered a homicide.

Payne's body was found by a person who was leaving for work Saturday morning, according to police.

Detectives tell NBC4 that the location where Payne's body was found is not related to his death. No one is in custody at this time.

The investigation continues.
