Homicide suspect critical after deputy shoots him in Rockville
ROCKVILLE, Minn. - A homicide suspect is in critical condition after being shot by a deputy.
Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says deputies were already en route to a home in Rockville for a report of a man with a gun around 4 a.m. Sunday when they received word that he had shot another man and fled on foot. The victim, 30-year-old Jeffrey Schutz, of Rockville, later died.
Sanner says the suspect, a 28-year-old Walker man, was later spotted in the laundry room of a nearby apartment building. He says officers were entering the building when the suspect fled out the rear. He says the suspect refused an order to drop his weapon, so a deputy opened fire and reportedly shot the suspect three times.
The suspect, who hasn't yet been charged, was rushed to St. Cloud Hospital in critical condition. He was later transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC). A Stearns County deputy is stationed outside his room.
