Woman admits wheelie bin manslaughter

An elderly woman has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of a teenager whose body was found in a wheelie bin buried in the backyard of her Wollongong home.

Patricia Goddard, 73, admitted in the Supreme Court this morning that she did nothing to prevent the death of teenager Louise O'Brien.

The teenager's remains were found last year in a wheelie bin which had been buried in Goddard's backyard in the Wollongong suburb of Bellambi.

The 18-year-old had been dead for more than two years after she was bashed with a hammer by an unknown person in 2008.

Ms O'Brien had been staying with Goddard's daughter, Tracey Taylor, and the 73-year-old was with Ms O'Brien after she had been injured.

Goddard has admitted that she did not get the girl medical help, despite the fact the teenager was suffering the effects of her injuries.

Taylor is accused of being an accessory after the fact to manslaughter and has been released on bail.
