Winnipeg's latest homicide victim ID'd

A man who was beaten to death has been identified by Winnipeg police as Michael Charles Parker, 33, the city's 12th victim of homicide in 2012.

Parker was injured in the parking lot of the Thriftlodge Motor Inn, in the 1400 block of Notre Dame Avenue around 11:30 p.m. CT Thursday.

He managed to make his way to a nearby home where he was found, but he died later in hospital.

Police also announced on Saturday that a suspect in the case had been arrested and charged.

Although he was injured in a parking lot adjacent to an off-sale beer store, police said Parker had not been robbed.

Police said it appeared Parker was in the Thriftlodge Motor Inn prior to the attack. They added that the victim and the suspect were not known to each other and that their first encounter was in the parking lot.

Police did not elaborate on the nature of Parker's injuries.

Shane Kenneth Pruden, 40, of Winnipeg, was arrested Friday and has been charged with second-degree murder. He is well known to police.

Pruden remains in custody and police said their investigation is continuing.

Flint's battlefield: A three-year murder map

FLINT, MI -- There have been 189 murders in the city since 2010. Below is a map of the locations of each murder in the last three years, as well as the names of the slain on Flint's battlefield. The spike in murders occurred almost immediately after large-scale layoffs in March of 2010. By year's end the city had set a record with 66 murders, breaking the previous mark of 61 set in 1986. Slain woman is Camden’s 67th murder victim this year

Emily Babay, Breaking News Desk Posted: Monday, December 17, 2012, 1:51 PM Camden's murder total for 2012 reached a record 67 late Sunday, when a 25-year-old woman was gunned down outside her home. Rasheeda Pegues was found slain on the 2000 block of Ferry Avenue shortly after 11 p.m., the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said. She had died from multiple gunshot wounds. No arrests have been made in the killing. The murder is Camden's 67th this year, far surpassing the city's previous record of 58, set in 1995. Pegues' death was the second killing in Camden over the weekend. On Saturday night, 36-year-old Rahkeem Byrd was shot inside a house on the 1100 block of Thurman Street and died at a hospital.
