Homicide suspect released after judge lowers bond

JACKSON, Miss. -

A man accused of killing a Jackson State University student has bonded out of jail.

On Monday, Jerrod Emerson was released on a $ 50,000 bond.

Hinds County district attorney Robert Smith said Nolan Henderson's family filed a request asking a judge to reduce the bond for Emerson.

Police have charged Emerson in connection with Henderson's death.

The shooting took place after a fight between Henderson and several JSU football players at a pool party.

So far, police say the football players "will not" be charged.

Flint's battlefield: A three-year murder map

FLINT, MI -- There have been 189 murders in the city since 2010. Below is a map of the locations of each murder in the last three years, as well as the names of the slain on Flint's battlefield. The spike in murders occurred almost immediately after large-scale layoffs in March of 2010. By year's end the city had set a record with 66 murders, breaking the previous mark of 61 set in 1986. Killing continued in 2011 with 57 murders. A look at the map shows the majority of the murders took place on the north and east sides, historically the most economically depressed areas of the city. Just 25 murders in the last three years occurred south of Court Street. The map is color-coded by year. Slain woman is Camden’s 67th murder victim this year

Emily Babay, Breaking News Desk Posted: Monday, December 17, 2012, 1:51 PM Camden's murder total for 2012 reached a record 67 late Sunday, when a 25-year-old woman was gunned down outside her home. Rasheeda Pegues was found slain on the 2000 block of Ferry Avenue shortly after 11 p.m., the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said. She had died from multiple gunshot wounds. No arrests have been made in the killing. The murder is Camden's 67th this year, far surpassing the city's previous record of 58, set in 1995. Pegues' death was the second killing in Camden over the weekend. On Saturday night, 36-year-old Rahkeem Byrd was shot inside a house on the 1100 block of Thurman Street and died at a hospital.
