GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -- A murder investigation is under way after an 84-year-old who served in World War II, died at a West Michigan veterans' facility. Police say he was attacked by another patient.
Police say Andrew Robinson Ball died Tuesday at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Investigators say he was assaulted Saturday, taken to a hospital and then was brought back to the veterans' facility. He died in bed and an autopsy said the cause was medical complications due to blunt force trauma.
Ball's step-daughter Deborah Keyworth tells The Grand Rapids Press that she was told her father walked into the wrong room and was attacked by a man with Alzheimer's.
The state Department of Military and Veteran's Affairs says the facility has a good safety record. No charges have been filed.
