Manslaughter accused’s plan ‘to go on rob’

One of two men charged with the manslaughter of an 87-year-old man in his Oswestry home rang the other to suggest they 'go on the rob' a jury heard at Stafford Crown Court.

During a party in the town over the Royal Wedding weekend, Danny Keeble rang Peter Marston, witness Diane Gardner said yesterday.

The two men are accused of breaking into the bungalow of Charles Green in Ambleside Road.

The pensioner suffered a broken hip socket and bleeding on the brain during a confrontation on May 2. He died a month later.

Marston, 23, formerly of Swan Lane, Oswestry, and Keeble, 26, of no fixed abode deny manslaughter and assaulting Mr Green with intent to rob.

Marston also denies burglary, a charge which Keeble has admitted.

Miss Gardner said: "Danny rang Peter Marston and told him to come round. He, Danny, wanted to go out on the rob. He phoned Pete more than once."

Mr Mark Wall, QC, for Keeble, suggested that the calls did not take place.

The jury also heard from Mr Green's two sons, who said their father was an independent man in good health.

Lawrence Green said he spoke to his father on the phone on May 2 in hospital.

"He told me 'I think I have dislocated my hip'," he said.

The trial continues.
