A double manslaughter at an apartment complex just blocks from UNCC
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Two men are dead after bullets fly during an altercation at an apartment early Friday morning just blocks from the UNC-Charlotte campus.
It was so close to the University, campus police were one of the first responders to a report of a double shooting that happened less than a half a mile from UNC-Charlotte.
Gunfire erupted around 1am, as frantic calls for help came in to the 911 dispatch center from an apartment located at 1736 Forest Side Lane.
When Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers arrived, they report they found two men inside of the unit, both were dead.
Crime scene tape was quickly rolled out and the area locked down as the search for the gunman began.
After talking to witnesses, police later said they were looking for two men, however, this was not a random act of violence.
They said the two suspects were let inside of the apartment by four people who were already there. That's when the shooting happened.
Right now, it's unclear what sparked the gunfire to begin.
A man and a woman, who were in the apartment at the time of the shooting were able to escape with their lives, and appeared to be unharmed.
There is no word as of this point on any arrests, or the names of the gunmen.
Police said more information will be released as it becomes available.
