Murder inquiry after city death

A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a man in the Roath area of Cardiff on Saturday.

South Wales Police want to trace a man in Oakfield Street at the time of an incident at nearby Claude Road at 02:45 BST.

He was wearing a light-coloured hooded top and trainers.

A major incident room has been set up at Cardiff Central Police Station. Police are appealing for witnesses to call 02920 571530.

Detectives want to hear from the man, who was white, or anyone who may have seen him.

He was running in the direction of the A4161 Newport Road.

They have also appealed for information from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in Claude Road and Oakfield Street areas on Saturday morning between 01:00-03:00 BST.

The street, part of which has been cordoned off by police, includes a number of properties which have been converted into flats and bedsits.

The dead man has not been named or formally identified at this stage.

Det Supt Stuart McKenzie, who is leading the investigation, told BBC Wales: "We have a dedicated team allocated to the inquiry.

"A team of officers are working around the clock at a major incident room.

"I would urge members of the public to come forward and help us with any information they have regarding this incident."

One resident, who did not want to be named, said he did not realise there had been an incident until he heard the BBC news.

"Then I opened the curtains and saw the police," he said.

The man described the street as "usually pretty quiet" with a mix of students and families.

EVERETT -- Police on Wednesday were canvassing the View Ridge-Madison neighborhood in Everett after a man was found dead there the night before. A neighbor spotted the man on the ground outside a vacant house at 22 Madison St. He called 911 about 6:20 p.m. The man had obvious signs of trauma to his torso, police said. He looked to be in his late 20s or early 30s. The Everett Major Crimes Unit is investigating the death as a homicide, Lt. Robert Goetz said. Manslaughter charges possible in boy's death

Published: Thursday, August 23, 2012, 5:55 p.m. MONROE -- Detectives believe a 7-year-old Monroe boy's parents should face second-degree manslaughter charges in connection with his January overdose death. Monroe police this week wrapped up their probe into the boy's Jan. 30 death and forwarded the case to prosecutors to decide if his parents should face criminal charges. Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Lisa Paul likely will begin reviewing the case in the coming days. She doesn't expect to make a charging decision in the near future, however. "It's quite an extensive investigation, and I want to review it thoroughly before I make any decision," she said. The boy, identified as "A.J." in court papers, ingested a lethal amount of salicylates, a chemical common in aspirin and other over-the-counter drugs.
