GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Grand Rapids police are investigating the assault and death of a World War II veteran at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
Investigators say it appears 84-year old Andrew Robinson Ball was assaulted by another patient back on the 14th. He was treated and then taken back to the Monroe Avenue facility the same day. Three days later, he was found deceased in his bed.
According to the Kent County Medical Examiner, Dr. Stephen Cohle, the cause of death was pneumonia. Dr. Cohle believes it was secondary to an assault.
Ball's family says he was suffering from Alzheimer's. He leaves behind a wife, who is currently living in a nursing home, also in Grand Rapids.
