Police ID 2 homicide victims

Philadelphia police have released the names of two young men gunned down this week in Olney and South Philadelphia.

Wednesday morning, a 20-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds was found on a sidewalk in the 500 block of Geneva Avenue in Olney. He was Andre Tyler of the 100 block of East Walnut Park Drive in the city's Oak Lane section, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:17 a.m. Police believe an argument played a role in the shooting.

The other homicide victim -- one of four people, including a pregnant woman, shot Tuesday night -- died of his wounds Wednesday morning. Adib Smith, 24, of the 2600 block of Earp Street in the King Village section of South Philadelphia, was pronounced dead at 1:08 a.m. at a hospital.

A 22-year-old man wounded in the shoulder, the pregnant woman and her 31-year-old brother, both of whom had leg wounds, were in stable condition after the shootings.

No motive had been established as of this morning. For more details, see "Victim in quadruple shooting dies."

These deaths raise the homicide count for the year to 137, the highest toll through May 23 since 2007, when 159 homicides happened through the same date.
