NORWALK, Conn. (CTPOST) -- Standing next to a memorial next to where John "Debo" Alston was gunned down on a South Norwalk street on Thursday morning, Javette Willoughby remembered the man fondly.

"He was a good person. He was a friendly guy to everybody," Willoughby, 16, said. "Everybody liked him."

Willoughby's mother, who declined to give her name, said kids in the neighborhood would gather around the big man.

She said that Alston was just playing football with kids in nearby Monterey Village a few days ago.

"He was a cool guy to me. It is a sad situation," she said. "The majority of time you would see him with kids."
