Five years after double-homicide, police still searching for suspect

Five years after a double-homicide shocked Warsaw, police are still looking for the man they believe is responsible.

On May 23, 2007, police say Omar Mora went to the Phillips 66 gas station on East Center Street and shot manager Harpal Singh. Omar thought Singh was having an affair with his life.

After firing several shots and killing Singh, Omar went to his home just outside of Warsaw. He forced his way in and shot his wife of ten years, Lisa.

"He fled the area after the shootings," said Kosciusko County Detective Jon Tyler. "From that point we've been trying to track his whereabouts to bring him into the court system to answer for those two homicides."

When Omar fled, he left behind the couple's two sons, who were only 2 and 7 years old at the time.

Now they're adjusting to life with their grandparents, who say some days are still hard.

"They have a fear with them now that's hard to get rid of," said Linda Bowdler, Lisa's mother. "They're always fearful of somebody breaking into the house and if their dad would come back to hurt them."

The boys have both turned into shining students who are active in sports and experimenting with music.

Although their lives may seem normal from the outside, Bowdler says there will always be something missing.

"For the boys, it was their whole family in one day," she said. "Their home, their mom, their dad. And so it's been very difficult not having either parent."

Lisa's family has turned to their strong faith to guide them through the difficult days of the past five years.

They say Omar's future is in God's hands and they're confident he'll be brought to justice.

"We know that the lord knows where he is and sees where he is," Bowdler said. "Our prayer is always that daddy would be convicted of what he's done, that he'd be arrested just because he needs to pay the penalty of what he's done."

The Kosciusko Sheriff's Department and Warsaw Police Department are working with federal and Mexican authorities to make sure that happens. They have several warrants out for his arrest and have received hundreds of tips about where Omar might be.

"We had a tip that somebody thought they found him on Facebook, that he put up a facebook profile," Tyler said. "We had a tip at a local Walmart where a lady was pretty sure he was standing across from her in the produce area."

But police believe Omar spends most of his time in Mexico, where he's from. He has a brother in Nappanee and for a while had another in New York, but most of his family is south of the border.

And although five years have passed since the horrific homicide, police say they're confident Lisa and Singh will get the justice they deserve.

"At least in this case we know who we're looking for," Tyler said. "It's a matter of being there at the right time and having the right tools to get a hold of him."
