Double homicide under investigation at Burnaby restaurant

Police are investigating an apparent double homicide after two bodies were discovered inside a Burnaby sushi restaurant.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound says a passerby called 911 at about 9:30 p.m. PT Sunday after spotting a person lying on the floor of the business just a few blocks east of the busy Metrotown mall.

When police arrived they found the second body inside the sushi restaurant, located on the 6500 block of Royal Oak Avenue.

Pound says few details are available, but the first officers at the scene determined both deaths appeared suspicious and alerted the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

"Although it is in the early stages, it appears to be a double homicide. Our priority is to identify the victims and determine their connection to each other," Pound said in statement issued early Monday morning.

Pound hasn't said if any suspects have been identified but she says police want to speak to anyone who may have any information about the killings.

Traffic was shut down in the area while police conducted their investigation.
