Oxnard police investigating fifth homicide of year

Oxnard police are investigating a homicide that occurred early Sunday, officials said.

Officers responded to reports of a fight with possible gun shots fired at 2:24 a.m. in the area of Hemlock and J Street, Oxnard police said.

A man, not yet identified, was found lying in the street with a gunshot wound, officials said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

The Oxnard Police Department is investigating several leads and motives for the homicide, they said.

The department reported that five homicides have occurred in the city this year.

An autopsy is scheduled to be completed by this afternoon, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office.
