Homicide victim found in Lehigh Acres identified as Cape Coral resident

The homicide victim found off a dirt road in Lehigh Acres on Monday was an alleged drug dealer and victim of a recent home invasion robbery.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office has identified the man as Christopher Mark Brothers, 50, of Cape Coral. He was found in thick brush just before 9 a.m. Monday in a secluded area near West 18th Street and Edison Avenue. Deputies are continuing the homicide investigation, according to a sheriff's office release.

The sheriff's office has not said how Brothers died or when he was killed, but he was released from Lee County Jail on Wednesday.

Brothers spent almost two weeks behind bars after he was arrested on two charges of drug possession and one charge each of selling opium and heroin, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office website.

His arraignment was scheduled for Sept. 10, according to the Lee County Clerk of Court website.

The night of Aug. 7, two suspects forced their way into Brothers' home on the 2500 block of Shelby Parkway in Cape Coral and robbed him of $ 500 cash.

Cape Coral police had been investigating possible drug sales at his home for months, and several undercover detectives bought from him, according to a police department release. The night after the robbery, police conducted a search warrant at his home and arrested him on drug charges.

In his mug shot posted on the Lee County Sheriff's Office website, the left side of Brothers' face is swollen and purple.

Brothers' neighbors said they suspected he was selling drugs.

Over the past two or three months, as many as 20 cars a day would make brief stops there, neighbor Jay Zukowski said the night of the robbery.

"Within the last two weeks I'd say it's gotten out of control," he said.

Anyone with information related to the killing of Christopher Brothers is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff's Office at 477-1000 or, to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward up to $ 1,000 dollars, Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
