Homicide charged in fatal I-25 crash

SOCORRO, N.M. (KRQE) - Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash on I-25 that has left one dead and others injured.

State police officers responded to the three-car crash around 10:30 p.m. Monday, seven miles south of Socorro.

Official say a Cadillac was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-25 when it struck a Honda. The Cadillac then stopped in the middle of the southbound lanes and was struck by a van.

A passenger in the Honda, Bertha Sanchez, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other passengers of the Honda were taken to Socorro General Hospital and one was flown to UNM Hospital and is in critical-stable condition.

Two passengers of the van were transported to El Paso with minor injuries.

The driver of the Cadillac, Reyes Duran, 21, was taken to Socorro General Hospital with minor injuries was treated and released.

After he was released from the hospital, Duran was then arrested by State Police and charged with DWI.

Alcohol was a contributing factor in this crash.
