Man jailed over murder cover-up

A man who helped his brothers try to cover up the brutal murder of a Glasgow man whose body was set on fire has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.

Bryan Christie, 22, helped move the body of 29-year-old Brian Faulds after he had been killed by his two brothers Paul, 29, and 27-year-old Adam.

The pair were jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 24 years before being eligible for parole.

Mr Faulds' remains were found near the River Clyde at Dalmarnock, Glasgow.

Bryan Christie was originally accused of being involved in the murder, but his not guilty plea was accepted by prosecutors.

'Shocking contribution'

The 22-year-old instead admitted to a charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Jailing him at the High Court in Glasgow, judge Lord Tyre told Christie he had played a "serious and shocking contribution" in the aftermath of Mr Faulds murder.

A number of the victim's relatives - who had turned up at court amid an increased police presence - yelled abuse as Christie was lead to the cells.

There were cries of "joke" and "I'll wait four-and-a-half years, no bother" as the group were escorted out the courtroom.

Last month at the same court, Christie's brothers admitted murdering Mr Faulds at a flat in Dalmarnock in September last year.

Lord Tyre jailed them for life and imposed a concurrent sentence of six years after they admitted attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

The court heard how the Christies killed Mr Faulds at a flat in Dalmarnock in September 2011.

The judge told the brothers: "The violence which you inflicted on Brian Faulds was horrific.

"The post-mortem report and photographs which I have seen bear witness to a vicious and sustained attack."

Lord Tyre added: "Only you know why this happened but what is clear is you inflicted at least 30 blows with bladed weapons to the victim's head. The injuries which resulted are truly dreadful."

Body removed

During the trial, the court heard how the brothers bound Mr Faulds with tape and repeatedly punched and kicked him on the head and body and repeatedly struck him with a knife, cleaver, axes, a hammer and baseball bat.

They bound Mr Faulds's body with tape and wrapped it in a blanket and carpet and put a pillowcase over his head.

In a bid to remove traces of blood and body tissue from the scene, wallpaper was removed from walls of the flat, paint applied and bleach poured on walls, floors and surfaces.

The corpse was put in the wheelie bin and moved from the murder scene to an embankment next to the Clyde Walkway where it was taken out of the bin.

An accelerant was applied and the body set on fire. Weapons such as a cleaver and axes were also disposed of.

The court heard that Mr Faulds' burned remains were found by 36-year-old Joseph McQueen at the Clyde Walkway on 28 September.

He called police but had to be taken to hospital suffering from shock.
