Stockton Homicide Rate: Will Prayer Help?

STOCKTON—

More than 600 people showed up at the Lakeview Assembly Church Sunday night to show their support for the Stockton Police Department.

In the wake of a startling statistic: 45 murders since January, the faith based community came together for "The Shock: Reviving a City."

They're hoping prayer will guide the police department through this tough time.

"We love our police department and we love our Chaplains here in Stockton," said Joey Steelman, Pastor at Lakeview Assembly Church and organizer of the event.

Residents from more than a dozen different denominations came together through prayer, music, and even tears.

"We're with them, we stand with them in prayer, in support, and we link arms together to make a difference in Stockton," Steelman said.

The event supported chaplains.

"It's really a big step to know that we can all stand together and work on things important to entire community," said Senior Deputy Chaplain Jesse Kenyon.

And detectives.

"A lot weighs on our hearts when we go and see what's happening to our city, so it's good that we can come together and see something positive," said Detective Roseaan Clark with the Stockton Police Department.
