Body found in SE Salt Lake City; homicide suspected
Police were investigating a possible homicide Wednesday morning in southeast Salt Lake City.
Salt Lake City police Sgt. Shawn Josephson confirmed that officers responded to a 911 call reporting that the body of a man in his late teens or early 20s was lying in a field near 1120 E. Crandall Avenue (about 2900 South) about 7:30 a.m.
While police would not detail the nature of any injuries the victim suffered, the incident was being investigated as a homicide, as is normal in any case of an unattended death. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death, Josephson said.
Salt Lake City Police Detective Josh Ashdown would not identify who called about the body. He said there was no obvious cause of death.
The body was found near some bushes in a lot bordered by two houses.
Neighbor Sheldon Smith said he didn't hear or see anything unusual. "We have never had anything like this," he said.
The Salt Lake Tribune will provide additional details as they become available.
