Homicide investigation underway in Thief River Falls after body found

Thief River Falls, MN (WDAY TV) - A homicide investigation is underway after a woman's body was found near the Red Lake River in the Smiley Township. The Pennington County sheriff's department is confirming that the body found is that of 40 year-old Tanya Marie Kazmierczak of Thief River Falls.

Kazmierczak had been reported missing since early Sunday morning. Although no suspects have been listed at this time, neighbors and friends of Kazmierczak say it isn't like her to wander off alone.

The town is in a state of shock, a loving mother, wife, and sister is dead after missing for nearly 24 hours. Friends say they last saw her Friday night.

Sheryl Vorel – Close Friend: "She texted us on Friday and she was having a bonfire on Friday night (and then you didn't see her after that and her family hasn't seen her) nope, nope."

When her husband woke up at 6 AM Saturday with Kazmierczak nowhere to be found, he immediately knew something was wrong.

Sheryl Vorel: "That's when everything went to hell over here, everything just blew up."

People in the Smiley Township say police cars were parked in the boat dock next to the Smiley Bridge all day Sunday when the discovery was made. Neighbors and community members say these streets were packed on Saturday night as they searched for their neighbor, but now they're left with many unanswered questions.

Sheryl Vorel: "We don't know why this happened, why it happened to her is unbelievable because she was the sweetest person you could ever ask for."

More than 200 people came out and searched.

Darlene Trahan – Live in Neighborhood: "A bunch of people over there, a bunch of people out front there looking for her everywhere on Saturday."

People are now teaming up, sticking together, so this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Sheryl Vorel: "It's not a situation we take lightly now, and so we're going to be on our guard."

EVERETT -- Police on Wednesday were canvassing the View Ridge-Madison neighborhood in Everett after a man was found dead there the night before. A neighbor spotted the man on the ground outside a vacant house at 22 Madison St. He called 911 about 6:20 p.m. The man had obvious signs of trauma to his torso, police said. Manslaughter charges possible in boy's death

Published: Thursday, August 23, 2012, 5:55 p.m. MONROE -- Detectives believe a 7-year-old Monroe boy's parents should face second-degree manslaughter charges in connection with his January overdose death. Monroe police this week wrapped up their probe into the boy's Jan. 30 death and forwarded the case to prosecutors to decide if his parents should face criminal charges. Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Lisa Paul likely will begin reviewing the case in the coming days. She doesn't expect to make a charging decision in the near future, however. "It's quite an extensive investigation, and I want to review it thoroughly before I make any decision," she said. The boy, identified as "A.J." in court papers, ingested a lethal amount of salicylates, a chemical common in aspirin and other over-the-counter drugs. The medical examiner declined to conduct an autopsy on the boy, making it difficult to determine how the drug ended up in the boy's system. A
