Authorities: Baby suffocated, death ruled a homicide

An autopsy today determined the death of a baby girl found unresponsive in an Englewood home earlier this week was a homicide, authorities say.

Emonie Beasley-Brown died of suffocation and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Emonie, of the 3900 block of South Wells Street, was taken to University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition Tuesday from a home in the 6000 block of South Bishop Street, authorities said.

She was pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m. Thursday, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office said.

Officials said the 1-month-old girl wasn't breathing when found.
