Blackburn Hamlet homicide victim identified

A 22-year-old man is dead after multiple shots were fired in Blackburn Hamlet just before 1 a.m. Saturday, and the major crimes unit is investigating.

Police and paramedics showed up at a townhouse development at 2676 Innes Rd. near Bearbrook Road after the shots rang out.

The victim's ex-girlfriend, Sarah Labib, identified the victim as Levy Kasende. Labib said she and Kasende had been together for about five years before they recently broke up.

Labib said Kasende was visiting her and their four-month-old daughter on Saturday night, and at one point he stepped outside.

She didn't see what happened next, but friends of the victim at the scene said they watched a silver SUV pull up in front of the townhouse and shoot Kasende at least five times.

Police said they had no one in custody Saturday morning.

They would not say if any suspects have yet been identified.
