Manslaughter charge over fatal Sydney fire

A man has been charged with homicide over a fatal house fire in Sydney's west last year.

A 31-year-old man died in the fire at Oatlands on November 22.

Neighbours of the Prince Street house said at the time that they heard explosions as the fire took hold.

Another man escaped the blaze and was taken to hospital with serious burns to more than half of his body.

After an investigation of the fire the 25-year-old handed himself in at Hurstville Police Station yesterday.

He has been charged with homicide and dishonestly destroying property by fire.

The man has been released on bail to face Parramatta Local Court next month.
