Homicide Investigation Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives have received a ruling from the Jefferson County District Attorney's office related to a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at approximately 4:45 p.m. at 556 Avenue V.  

The victim has been identified as:
Deandrea Thomas, B/M, 22, of Birmingham, Alabama.
 
 Homicide investigators presented the case to the District Attorney's office who acknowledged that the case will be ruled as a justifiable homicide. The District Attorney's office advised investigators the ruling was due to the fact that the shooter was acting in self-defense when he shot the victim. During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that the shooting victim attacked the shooter, striking him with fist and banging his head against the wall while choking him.

 The suspect that surrendered to investigators was released. There are no arrests in this case.

The victim has been identified as:
Mitchell Hamby, B/M, 22, of Birmingham, Alabama.
 
 Homicide investigators presented the case to the District Attorney's office who acknowledged that the case will be ruled as a justifiable homicide. The District Attorney's office advised investigators the ruling was due to the fact that the shooter was acting in self-defense when he shot the victim. 

 The suspect that was taken into custody was released. There are no arrests in this case.
