Homicide investigation after body found in Paeroa
A police investigation is underway in the Waikato town of Paeroa, after a body was found early this morning in a pool of blood.
At a news conference this afternoon police said they have not ruled out suicide or connections with robberies in the area, but it is too early to speculate.
A post-mortem will be carried out tomorrow on the man, believed to be 57 years old.
He was found in the driveway of an IHC day care centre opposite the town's fire station shortly after 6am.
Rural field crime supervisor Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Whitehead says like in any situations of this nature the man's death would be treated as suspicious until such time as there was information to hand that proved this was not the case.
A formal indentification process is yet to be completed but Paeroa residents have named the man as Jordan Voudouris, the owner of a local pizza restaurant Mykono's Pizza.
Flowers and notes have been left at Mr Voudouris' pizza restaurant and messages have been posted on his restaurant's Facebook page.
Police say they want to hear from anyone who might have seen or heard anything suspicious in the centre of Paeroa overnight or early this morning.
