Carthage Homicide Suspect Arrested in South Carolina
Police in Marlboro County, South Carolina have arrested a Carthage man wanted in connection with a shooting death that occurred Thursday afternoon.
Moore County Sheriff Lane Carter said in a news release that Imani Arlo Gillespie, 28, of 409 Saunders St. in Carthage, was arrested in South Carolina. He is currently being held at the Marlboro County Detention Center and proceedings are scheduled for his extradition back to North Carolina.
Police say the Thursday shooting occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Kenneth Earl Covington, 48, of 256 Stoney Creek Road in Carthage, was found lying in the front yard of his home. He had been shot at least once and was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, where he died.
Police say the suspect was last seen in a black Ford Expedition and was armed with a rifle.
