Homicide investigators combing Halifax north end
Halifax Regional Police are busy in the city's north end this afternoon in relation to the ongoing murder investigation in the death of Ryan Matthew White, the CBC has learned.
Police found White on the pavement outside a building in the Mulgrave Park public housing complex two years ago. He was suffering from a chest wound.
Today, police are combing the area between Union Street and Devonshire Avenue, just below Fort Needham Park.
Homicide investigators, the identification unit, as well as the canine unit and other officers are on scene.
They're using metal detectors in a heavily wooded area where there are walking trails.
Const. Brian Palmeter told CBC News, police are searching for evidence.
"We received information recently with respect to the ongoing investigation, that has led investigators back to search this area," he said, "Obviously I can't get into what we're looking for but we believe there's evidence here that will help us in the investigation."
Palmeter said the area was searched by investigators at the time of the murder, but police believe this new search may reveal evidence that will allow them to lay charges.
