Man pleads guilty to homicide in motel death

HARTFORD, Conn.—A Waterbury man has pleaded guilty to first-degree homicide for fatally stabbing a man at an Enfield motel last year.

Thirty-four-year-old Jeffrey Ward had been charged with murder in the September 2011 killing of 29-year-old Hector Sibaja. Under a plea deal, he will be sentenced July 25 to 25 years in prison. Ward also pleaded guilty Monday in Superior Court to first-degree assault and probation violation.

The Hartford Courant reports (http://cour.at/Lmqn8O) that prosecutor Thomas Garcia said it would have been difficult to prove Ward intentionally killed Sibaja.

Police said Ward argued on the phone with a former girlfriend who was at the motel with several others. Ward said the woman told him she was going to have five men jump him when he arrived and he struck at Sibaja in fear. Another woman was injured.

Patricia gave Letha CPR until emergency crews arrived... But God called Letha up to heaven Patricia Campbell was arrested and charged with the second-degree murder of her daughter Letha. Patricia said she had put Letha in the bathtub and then went to lay down "just for a split second," but instead she fell asleep. She said she would always fill the bathtub quite full because Patricia liked to play in the water. Prosecutors did not have enough evidence to prove that Letha's murder was second degree. And the charge against Patricia was dropped to second-degree homicide. Patricia Campbell plead guilty to second-degree homicide and was sentenced the 4 years in prison. "I wish there was something I could do to make it different. I wish every day I didn't walk away.
