The murder squad is investigating after a young man was shot near a highrise community in Scarborough.

A 911 call was placed at 5:45 p.m. after people heard shots from the parking lot that surrounds a highrise at 6 Glamorgan Ave., off of Kennedy Rd. south of Hwy. 401.

The parking lot of the highrise is cordoned off by police, as nervous residents mill around the building entrance. Roughly five suspects are being sought.

EMS crews found a man in his mid-20s with two gunshot wounds, at least one to the chest. He was rushed to a trauma centre with serious life-threatening injuries.

Crews ordered an ambulance rush after paramedics marked the man's condition CTAS-1, the highest urgency.

Suzan, a resident of the building who declined to give her last name, said she heard three or four shots from her apartment.

"I was scared," she said as she left the building with her young daughter. "I still am."

About an hour after the shooting, police escorted a woman and man, thought to be the victim's family away from the scene.
