Police have set up a cordon around a family home in the south Auckland suburb of Manurewa where a man is believed to have been killed last night.

A homicide investigation was launched after the body of the man was found in the house on Primrose Place in the early hours of this morning.

Police say they were called to the address around 2.15am and are now piecing together the events leading to the 59-year-old's death.

The deceased was reportedly unconscious when police arrived at the scene and despite CPR being administered, he was unable to be revived.

Several officers are guarding the entrance to the street while they wait for homicide detectives to arrive.

The man's body remains in the house and a post mortem will be carried out later today.
