Richmond: Homicide victim identified as 19-year-old man

RICHMOND -- The Contra Costa County coroner's office has identified a man who was killed in a Richmond shooting late Friday night as 19-year-old Emmanuel Miranda.

Police found Miranda, a Richmond resident, near the corner of 37th Street and Nevin Avenue after responding to a ShotSpotter activation alerting them to gunshots in that area at about 11:30 p.m., Richmond police Lt. Shawn Pickett said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Pickett said.

Interviews with witnesses suggested that there had been some kind of argument in the street that turned into a physical fight, during which someone pulled a gun and shot Miranda.

Witnesses also told police that three suspects had fled on foot toward 36th Street, Pickett said.

Police surrounded the neighborhood and searched yards in an effort to find the three suspects, but were unsuccessful.
