Police investigating the "brutal" murder of an 80-year-old widow have said "significant" developments have been made in the inquiry.
Jenny Methven was found dead in the kitchen of her isolated cottage near Forteviot, Perthshire, on 20 February.
She had been beaten on her head and body with a blunt object. Her body was discovered by her son, David.
A month after the attack, Tayside Police said the inquiry was now at a "critical stage".
Det Ch Insp Colin Gall, who is leading the investigation, said: "Whilst I am not in a position to elaborate any further at this time, I can confirm that there have been further developments this week and our inquiry has now reached a critical stage.
''As a consequence of this we will not be in a position to make an appeal on Crimewatch tonight as had been planned. We are hugely appreciative of the assistance given to us by everyone involved with the programme."
DCI Gall said detectives had informed Mrs Methven's family of the latest developments.
'Heard vehicle'In the past few weeks, the inquiry team have interviewed hundreds of people and reviewed "days' worth" of public and private CCTV footage.
More than 400 items have also been examined by forensic officers.
Mrs Methven was seen alive as she walked her two-year-old spaniel on roads near her home at Kildinny Cottage between 08:00 and 09:00 on the day she was killed. She was wearing a fluorescent yellow jacket.
The 80-year-old was last heard from at 10:30, when she ended a phone call with a friend saying she could hear a vehicle coming up her driveway
Her son found her body in the kitchen of the cottage at about 17:15.
