BAWBURGH, England, March 18 (UPI) -- British police said a man was stabbed to death early Sunday at the home of former boxing champion Herbie Hide.

Officers were called to the former WBO heavyweight champ's home in Bawburgh, Norfolk, shortly after midnight to investigate a report of someone who had been injured during a party.

Detective Superintendent Julian Gregory told The Sun the identity of the dead man was not immediately known and the slaying was under investigation.

"A large number of people are known to have been present at the property at the time," Gregory said. "I would urge anyone who left the scene before speaking to police to contact Norfolk Constabulary as soon as possible."

Hide, 40, had relocated to temporary quarters while the investigation was under way, the newspaper said.

Hide won the WBO belt twice in the 1990s and compiled a 49-4 record. He last fought in 2010 as a cruiserweight.
