Homicide on Clover Lane

A shooting at a Clover Lane residence Thursday evening has been labeled a homicide by the Carter County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Ken Grace and criminal investigators with the department were being pulled in two directions Thursday responding to the discovery of a body found under a Diamond Road bridge, north of Fox about 5:15 p.m. and slightly more than an hour later being called to the scene of a gunshot slaying on Clover Lane, located in rural northeast Ardmore.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Grace said, "Right now we're waiting on the ME (medical examiner investigator) and Lt. Rick Batt, CCSD Criminal Investigation, to arrive (from the Fox scene)."

The sheriff said what had been initially reported at 6:30 p.m. as a shooting that occurred as the result of a potential break-in had been ruled out.

"This is a homicide. The victim was inside the residence. He had been shot with a shotgun, that has been recovered. One suspect (a male) is in custody and we are interviewing three other people who were at or near the residence at the time of the shooting," Grace said.

Grace said the preliminary investigation led investigators to believe, "This is possibly the result of some sort of domestic disturbance."

Neither the victim nor the suspect were immediately identified.

"It's too early in the investigation for us to release names," Grace said.
