Fairfield double murder suspect found on train

A suspect has been arrested in a drug-related double murder in Fairfield, police said.

Blake Johnson, 21, of Vallejo was arrested Monday night after someone spotted him on a train in Nevada, said Fairfield police Lt. Greg Hurlbut. He was taken into custody without incident after arriving at the Amtrak station in Sacramento.

Johnson was booked at Solano County Jail in Fairfield on two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of Vedell Jamar Chew, 24, of Fairfield and Bernard Francis Knight, 18, of East Palo Alto. The two were found dead on El Toro Court in the Parkway Gardens complex about 4:45 p.m. March 7.

Police believe they were killed during a drug deal gone awry.

Police arrested two other suspects three days after the slayings, but they were released after prosecutors declined to file charges.

Hurlbut said investigators are "working closely" with prosecutors to "conduct a full review of the case. As a result of this collaboration, the most appropriate charges will be filed against those individuals determined to be responsible for the double murder."

Flint's battlefield: A three-year murder map

FLINT, MI -- There have been 189 murders in the city since 2010. Below is a map of the locations of each murder in the last three years, as well as the names of the slain on Flint's battlefield. The spike in murders occurred almost immediately after large-scale layoffs in March of 2010. By year's end the city had set a record with 66 murders, breaking the previous mark of 61 set in 1986.
